No Hen Was Harmed In The Making Of This Photograph...
My Dad and I both loved hens. We kept a few at the farm for fun and eggs. In latter years, we re-homed some ex batts from the British Hen Welfare Trust. These were hens that had reached the end of their commercial viability and were due to be culled. The farmers gave them to the BHWT as an alternative. Our hens had many happy and productive years. Most of the hens arrived with no, or very few, feathers and looked very scruffy. Perhaps a surprise to some people, hens are funny, intelligent, affectionate and inquisitive. In this photograph, my Dad and sister are putting a coloured ring around the hen’s leg so we can identify it easily, prior to learning its personality.
I processed this image in ‘Faded’. It is cropped substantially as my family in general are camera shy. No living creature was harmed in the making of this photograph.
