Gilford TB1.1931 Earls Court show exhibit after conversion into a trolleybus.
This really modern looking bus was originally built with a 2 stroke Junkers opposed piston diesel engine with fake wooden pistons. This was replaced with a Meadows petrol engine for a short test period. It was extremely low built at 12ft 11in high. The body was built by Wycombe with center gangways on both decks LD56R.The lower gangway had only 13 inches ground clearance.
It was a semi chassis less bus, with front wheel drive.Note the single rear wheels fitted to stub axles.
After conversion to electric power it worked for a while with
Wolverhampton Corporation.Gilford also built a single deck low floor bus of similar construction but that was also not successful.
