Clevedon Court Pavilion
One of the small pavilions on the Pretty Terrace at Clevedon Court.
Clevedon Court dates back to the 13th century, when the Norman family of de Clevedon chose the location to build their manor house.
Close to Bristol and only a few miles from the sea, it has stayed the home of the local lords of the manor ever since, with the de Clevedons, the Wake family and the Elton family – who have lived there since 1709 – taking residence.
Much of the original medieval house remains, with a Great Hall and a small chapel, the latter remodelled by the Wakes during the Tudor period.
Much of the rest of the property was modernised by the Eltons in the 18th and 19th century as they rose to prominence in the ever-expanding Bristol.
As well as the main house, there is also a terraced garden which dates back to the 17th century, though the current design was most likely implemented by the Eltons after they took over the house in the 1720s.
The National Trust took over the home in 1960, though the Elton family still live there.
