Dipping Into the Aurora
Why in the world would one extract himself from a warm sleeping bag snug in his tent at 0500? This is why! The predawn sky put on a heck of a show over George Lake in Killarney Provincial Park, revealing a few things all but invisible to the naked eye. The bright object to the right is the planet Venus and a small meteor is visible to the left... Venus was expected (duh!) and meteors are common. The big prize was the Northern Lights display, with the Big Dipper taking a scoop out of them! I'm glad I got up and dragged Mark and Geoff out of their slumber... they weren't disappointed! Taken with a Canon 70D mounted on a tripod, hence the star trails.
