Target Flex Coming Soon (Former Superfresh), Philadelphia, PA
The empty 46,4000 sq. ft. former Superfresh in the Roxborough neighborhood of Philadelphia is being transformed into a Target Flexible format store. The store is one of a wave of Target Flex stores hitting urban areas in the US over the next few years.
Since space and zoning restrictions prevent big-box retailers like Target from building cookie-cutter stores from scratch in these densely populated older areas, Target is reusing existing buildings, even leaving the distinct Superfresh portico on the building.
Philadelphia has two new Target Flex stores downtown and New York has 2 as well (including a Kosher Target Flex in Queens). Additional flex stores are slated in both cities over the next few years. At the same time, very few full-sized Target stores and no new supercenters are planned. Many retail experts have spoken of the end of the supercenter age.
