A&P FutureStore, Fishkill, NY
The former 34,500 sq. ft. A&P FutureStore of Fishkill, NY was built as a Sav-A-Center, but opened as a FutureStore in 1987. It is a different version of the angled facade than I am used to seeing in New Jersey locations like Wyckoff or Wayne. This store has the full slanted pillars and roof, but with windows that are angled only at the top, and then run perpendicular to the ground (more like the FutureStore Greenhouse design) A&P built other stores in this same design in Virginia Beach, VA (Farmer Jack), Marlton, NJ (Superfresh) and Philadelphia (Superfresh).
This A&P FutureStore was opened on Saturday, August 22, 1987, converted to an A&P Food Market in the late 90's, and closed for good in 2007. Ocean State Job Lot (a closeout retailer in the same vein as Ollie's or Amazing Savings) opened here in 2008.
The Fishkill store was one of 4 New York State FutureStores (the others were a former Stop & Shop in New City which has since been demolished, a Rockville Center, Long Island store which is now a Homegoods and a New Rochelle location which closed in 2011)
