The pods were designed and manufactured by Leitner-Poma.

The London Eye (aka Millenium Wheel, and a few other names) was conceived by Julia Barfield and David Marks, who designed it with Frank Anatole, Nic Bailey, Steven Chilton, Malcolm Cook, and Mark Sparrowhawk. Formally unveiled in December 1999, it opened to the public in 2000.
