Classical Justice
Bust of Robert Raymond, Lord Chief Justice
Louis François Roubiliac, 1732
Roubiliac was one of the leading sculptors of his generation. He was trained on the Continent, but settled in England in 1730. Here he portrays the Lord Chief Justice, Robert Raymond (1672-1732), in the classical manner with a toga and cropped hair. The mole gives a sense of naturalism, even though the bust was probably posthumous.
