Dazzle Ship
HMS President in dazzle camouflage.
HMS President was launched in 1918 as HMS Saxifrage, as an anti-submarine Q-ship (decoy vessel). Dazzle camoflage was devised by Norman Wilkinson (1878-1971), the intention was not so much to mask the ship, but to break up the lines and make it difficult to determine the speed and direction of the ship.
This paint scheme was designed by Tobias Rehberger as part of the commemorative works marking the start of the First World War.
