Walking in Paradise (In Explore 06-10-2025)

Just a little bit below the polar circle you can find the National park Saltfjellet-Svartisen. I was there the first of June when the park wasn’t yet open, although you were allowed to go in there. There were no facilities but I didn’t care. It meant there were hardly any people, so I had most of the hike for myself. I hiked towards the eastern part of the Svartisen glacier, the part known as Svartisen Rana. (There is also a western part, that you reach driving the Kystriksveien that I did more than 3 months later. )

The walk was amazingly beautiful, first of all the weather was gorgeous and it had been that way for most of the May month. The lower part was a 6 km hike along a turquoise lake, and then a ca. 3km climb up to the glacier (not shown on the photo). When crossing the pass I ended up in an incredible snow landscape that just was starting to melt . It gave the wonderful blue colors in little water pools, and in front of me there was a vast lake (Austerdalsvatnet) covered under thick snow (also not in this picture).

I still have to work on a selection of this glorious day, but upon seeing this shot while hopping through my maps, there was no stopping, I had to post this one, otherwise it might take months before I get to this part of my journey.
