The revenge of the Kestrel!!
The kestrel series will be continued.
After I previously wrote disparagingly that I was done photographing kestrels, I have since been regularly attacked by very pushy kestrels who also wanted to have their photo taken. Apparently at least one of them had also read my Flickr post, and it may have caused bad blood, because I've been seeing them everywhere ever since. And what I initially thought was praying might actually be waving. Like: "hello, this is the place to be, I'm very beautiful too".
I took this photo in the Floodplains near Fort Everdingen, a beautiful area for seeing birds. Something different every time. When I walked up the path I saw them hanging again, those pushy kestrels. Of course I tried to ignore them and photographed a mother pheasant with 3 grown chicks that were walking jauntily in the grass, but further on I had to believe it. I was standing at a fence when this kestrel flew over and sat on a post 12 meters away from me. As if I didn't exist!
For a moment I feared the ultimate revenge, because as you can see, the kestrel chose the open air. Was she out to poop on my telephoto lens?? Luckily she chose a nearby tree, leaving me with the feeling of an ultimate kestrel photo?
