Rani Mahal panorama

After Bardia National Park I went to Tansen. The guide books say that you have a splendid view of the Himalayas on top of the hill that oversees Tansen. Well I didn't see them. There was too much air pollution.

But in the vicinity there was the Rani Mahal, the Nepalese version of the Taj Mahal, a memorial to a beloved wife who died too early too young. It was built the end of the 19th century.

There the comparison ends. The palace is build in a wonderful setting, but the building itself is rather poor, and at the moment in a deteriorated state. But it made a nice walk from Tansen through the hills.

As you can see, there also was haze in this area, and it was just the start of the pollution becoming much worse in the following weeks.
