Early morning at smoggy Begnas lake (in Explore 17-06-2024)
The second part of my trip in Nepal was rather difficult. Already at the start in March many days could be characterized as hazy.
After the midst of April there was a thick blanket of smog covering most of the country. The visibility fell back to some kilometers, and in many places where the guide books had said there was a splendid view on the Himalayas, the mountains were not visible at all. I have met people who had been traveling for a month in Nepal, that haven't seen the mountains.
I stayed several days at Begnas lake, a small lake close to Pokhara. On clear days it would be a wonderful place, I did some hiking, but unfortunately the views everywhere were meager. At that time I didn't know that that would be the case for the rest of my trip (although I already had my suspicions).
