Gatekeeper

A solitary poppy before the forbidding entrance to the Citadel, the centre piece of the massive 19th Century Western Heights fortifications at Dover, designed to defend the town in the event of an attack by the Napoleonic hordes. More recently it was used to keep people in, firstly young offenders, then up to 2015, asylum-seekers. There is little sign of activity now, which makes this approach more poppy friendly.
