'Downstairs' in Queens

A look at the lower portion of the New York and Atlantic's yard at Fresh Pond in Queens, taken from the bridge that once carried New Haven Railroad Freights over the Long Island Railroad. Fresh Pond was the main interchange point between the two railroads. In 1997 the New York and Atlantic was formed to take over freight service on all former Long Island Branches. Today, Fresh Pond is still a busy place, and the Providence and Worcester makes the trip from Cedar Hill to Fresh Pond and return.
