Ants

Sometimes all that blood, sweat, and tears finally pay off. In the case of this image, it required driving 800 miles in a weekend, crawling through the mud, sweating in the 90 °F South Texas heat, and enduring the bites of hundreds of pissed off invasive Crazy Ants (Nylanderia fulva). Call me insane, but I would do it again in a heartbeat.

My favorite bird, the American Avocet (Recurvirostra americana), backlit by the fading sun.
