Appalachian Elixir

A small stream flows through a hardwood forest in western North Carolina. These cold streams are host to a variety of invertebrate, fish, and salamander species that depend on the water quality for survival. Human development and mountaintop mining have threatened many of these aqua-ecosystems, causing a decline in many of these species. How long until we realize that we are poisoning our waters?
