Terrifying Perfection
There is something awe-inspiring, yet terrifying, about being in the realm of perfection. I was photographing a Blue Shark when I heard a yell from topside, "MAKO!" I immediately swiveled around and caught a glimpse of a large shadow streaking off into the depths with lightning speed. My heart started to beat faster and I started to breathe harder as I scanned the water column all around me. Then out of nowhere, a flash of steel blue and teeth shot out of the darkness and charged right towards me. The mako swam to within inches of me, turned, and was gone again. I was in the presence of the perfect predator, and in that brief moment I felt something I still cannot describe...a mix of fear and respect and wonder. What an experience that I will not soon forget.
