A hen American Wigeon (Anas americana) comes right in towards the camera. Oakley Street in Cambridge, Maryland is one of the top waterfowl photography destinations in the US. Every winter, hundreds of thousands of ducks migrate down the eastern seaboard, with many wintering over in the Chesapeake Bay and its waterways. The locals of Cambridge have been feeding the ducks for decades and generation after generation have spent entire days watching the massive rafts of divers and puddle ducks that hang out at the end of Oakley Street. The heritage and livelihood of the Eastern Shore is intimately linked with waterfowl--many in the region grew up as watermen and duck hunters. Some call waterfowling a hobby--they call it life. I'd even say many of them have the icy cold waters of the Chesapeake running through their veins...
