Wounded on the Rocks
As my friend and I were scanning Manasquan Inlet in NJ for birds, we had this Harbor Seal (Phoca vitulina) haul itself onto the rocks just a little way down from us. We decided to try to get closer for some pictures, when we realized that it was wounded. You can see some blood on its fur, and he had a large gash on the other side of his body...most likely from a boat strike. Let this be a reminder to all boaters to slow down when travelling through the inlets!
