A Face Only A Mother Can Love

A Turkey Vulture (Cathartes aura) struts towards its meal off-camera. We found a large group of black and turkey vultures feasting on some roadkill in central Florida. Black and Turkey vultures often work together while scavenging. Turkey vultures have a better sense of smell, so they are able to locate and track down carcasses and other food sources. In return, black vultures use their much more robust beaks to tear into the carcasses, allowing both black and turkey vultures to feast.
