a carinderia is a community shop that sells food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. according to local food historians the idea for the carinderia started around the 18th century by migrant indian merchants. the idea is that people come into the shop and choose from a selection of dishes by pointing to the item which are commonly displayed on a long table. nowadays there is a proper display cabinet.
