the garlic is close relative of the onion, shallot, leek, and chive. it is a popular herb, native to central asia and africa, and used by humans beyond biblical times. its use is both culinary and medicinal. it is a bulbous plant that can grow up to 4 feet. the philippine variety is small but very strong and pungent. i like eating my food heavily laden with garlic. the residual effect, specially the leftover odor, from the mouth can be offensive to some people so taking mint, after a meal with garlic, is a good solution. with the recent bad weather conditions in the philippines coupled with new tariffs imposed by the government on imported commodities, has affected the prices of garlic and a lot of sectors have been complaining about the high prices which has made the government review their rates.
