1927 - Excelsior Albert 1e -1
1927 - Excelsior Albert 1e Short Chassis Cabriolet @ 12e editie Concours d'Elegance Paleis Het Loo
This specific car is the only one left from a very limited production range. The car was made in 1927 by Excelsior, a Belgian car manufacturer and delivered to Hayward Automobile Ltd. in London. The car was ordered by the Romanian Ambassador. Unfortunately the Ambassador was not able to pay for the car and the car was exported to South-Africa. The owner of a gold mine in South-Africa bought the car and used the car until the Fifties. After this period the car changed hands several times to 3 different owners. The last one decided to put a much lower body on the car. The body, made by Snutsel from Brussels, was removed and partly disassembled and altered to suit the new body. However this job was never finished and in 2004 the current owner managed to buy the car, including what was left from the original body and an original blue print of the car. The new owner started a very detailed restoration, spent a lot of time in research and trying to find the correct spare parts. The result is really amazing and as Motorsport magazine already stated in 1927: "Undoubtedly a high class car, unostentatious, yet capable of a performance equal to anything except a racing car".
