Sloughed male adder in snow.
Typical spring day, but it didn't deter the adders. It was the coldest day I recall seeing any adders, 2 degrees but add to that the freezing wind chill and it felt more -2. There had been some sunshine earlier in the day and there were prolonged sunny spells after this mini blizzard. I can only presume they'd use more energy going in and out to shelter each time it snowed than they do by simply coiling up and hunkering down waiting for the next break in the clouds. 20 males seen but only 3 had sloughed. Lots of movement away from hibernation sites now. Hoping this video doesn't have some strange psychedelic filter added to it which seems to happen whenever I try to put any videos in Flickr? (it appears to have happened again, strange purple and green colouring. Anyone have any ideas how to rectify this, or does it appear normal on your screens?)
