In 1989 'City of Wells' was taken out of service for overhaul following her boiler certificate expiring which took 25 years to complete to enable her to steam again in 2014. It was during this time that her tender was restored to be straight sided which I think suits a Spam Can far better.
In 1986 the owners of 'City of Wells' had a Giesl ejector chimney made which resulted in the locomotive having improved fuel economy, better lifting of the exhaust and more power output. She is very unique in her class.
She sounded epic and I particularly love some of a Spam Can's features such as the wheels. Their somewhat brutal beauty has a lot of presence.
