memories from the past..

Uddevalla - Bohuslän - Sweden

From the world's largest shell bank Uddevalla/Sweden.

Here mainly stone clam and giant barnacles have collected together to form the gigantic land mass.

The Shell bank in Uddevalla was formed over 11,000 years ago when the ice age thawed. Then conditions for life in the water improved, and so the remnants of all the different species of shellfish, molluscs, crustaceans and other marine life accumulated.

It is estimated there has been over 1 million cubic meters of bio mass in the shell bank, but now barely more than 10 percent remains.
