Detail on Sir Ralph Fitzherbert tomb
Next door to Norbury Manor, seat of the Fitzherbert’s, it’s not surprising that they built St Bartoks in 1295, with C14th and C15th additions. It’s also not surprising that it contains Fitzherbert memorials and tombs such as this one, made from Chellaston alabaster., dating from 1493. Sir Ralph's feet are resting on this lion or mythical beast, which in turn has a tiny head above it.
