Tibor Kalman
In 1999 TIbor Kalman was posthumously awarded the AIGA medal. During his life as a designer he managed to coin the moniker of the “Bad Boy” of design. He was notorious for only working when he had complete control over the project on which he was working. He always had a huge personal and moral agenda with his work and hated the big business commercial work being produced in the world. He saw it as mediocrity and wouldn’t stand for any of it. His Magazine Colors was his pet project where he was editor and chief, which meant anything he wanted to do he could. He was never afraid to make people mad and never accepted excuses for bland commercial advertising. Till his dying day he stood up for what he believed in, no matter how loud he got doing it.
