Mason's Guild A1_Surveying
Still in southern Garheim, Mark journeyed east. Galainir and Maldrake had been overthrown. Roawia was finally enjoying a state of peace after months of brutal war.
As Mark headed along the quiet country, the effects of war were still apparent. Farmhouses were being rebuilt. This was a priority for the locals, and very worthwhile. The soldiers, on the other hand, were being employed constructing new watchtowers and other similar structures.
Mark turned aside and questioned Lumen as to his duties when they reached their destination.
“I would like you to help with the surveying, first off. Have you surveyed before?” Lumen responded.
“A little bit, I would like to learn though.”
“Good. We’ll be there in about two hours.”
The two friends talked the rest of the way to the site, getting caught up on each other’s adventures in war.
At the site, the surveying tools were unloaded from the small caravan and the job was soon underway.
“Lower…lower…lower…yes! Right there!” Mark called over to Lumen.
“6.9 ft.” Lumen muttered. “Alright, now the next one!” Lumen called over to Mark, who moved the level to be lined up with the other stake.
Lumen placed his hand on the second vertical stake and looked to Mark.
“Just a little bit lower…to far, go back up…yes!” Mark sighted along the level and called to Lumen who moved his hand up and down on the stake as commanded.
“6.5 ft.” Lumen looked down and jotted down the next number. He motioned Mark to come over to see what was going on.
“See, the stakes are 7 ft. tall each and the chain keeps them ten feet apart. When you used the level, it didn’t really matter how high it was, just so it would line up somewhere on each stake. The first one was 6.9 ft. and the second one was 6.5 ft. that makes the vertical difference in elevation .4 ft. in 10 ft. horizontal. That makes the slope here 4%”
“Wow, that’s really clever.” Mark complimented Lumen as they moved to the next location.

So... I thought this would be a good time to start the Mason's Guild with Garheim needing numerous different structures.
I always like helping my dad do the surveying before we tile, so I had fun with this build and story.
And finally, that is not a water trough for the horses to drink out of. It has to do with surveying before lasers and gps and such. Bragging rights to whoever can tell what it was used for :)
