Méndez Núñez is the fourth ship of the new F-100 class of air defense frigates. She entered service with the Spanish Navy in 2006. She is named after the 19th century Spanish Rear admiral Casto Méndez Núñez. The Méndez Núñez was ordered in 1997, laid down in 2003, launched in 2004 and commissioned in 2006. Her home port is Naval Base Ferrol. She is shown coming up the Clyde prior to taking part in the NATO 2018 Joint Warrior exercise.
