St Paul's from Millenium Bridge

Thank You to everyone who took the trouble to view comment or fave

- One of the best views of St Paul's - the symmetry of the bridge complements the formal classical architecture.

In my opinion this is best shot, just after sunset as here, where the dome is lit up & highlighted, & the wonderful blue lights of the Millenium bridge come on (although they take on a turquoise colour through the glass panels of the bridge)

Not the easiest shot as there's a fairly small window of opportunity between the bridge lights coming on & the light levels dropping too much - which means the dome tends to give blown highlights & needs HDR treatment (even then doesn't look quite as good)

The other big problem is the people like me who walk all over the bridge! - it gets busier than an ice cream van on Brighton beach on a sunny bank holiday Monday - especially at this time!

If you want to capture the beauty of the blue lights on the bridge there's no option other than to use a 10 stop filter and get a 60 second exposure (minimum) to remove the crowds.

Even then you'll need to take a few shots because there's always a few stragglers who stop for ages to take in & photograph the great view & ruin even 60 second shots.

If you're not a fully paid up photo crazy geek like me and feel a bit self conscious with a tripod this is THE place to shake off those inhibitions because you have to stick your tripod smack bang in the middle of the half landing of the bridge!

But hey - if you can make it here - just like New York - you can make it anywhere!
