03 The Mask of Sanity cover

About the Cover

The Mask of Sanity

An Attempt to Clarify Some Issues About the So-Called Psychopathic Personality

by Hervey Cleckley, M.D.

Cover for the Fifth Edition: private printing for non-profit educational use by Emily S. Cleckley.

Created for the downloadable PDF version that is available free in the scitechlab.wordpress.com/psychology/ as “The Mask of Sanity" because all great books deserve a great cover.

Also available as a free download at The Cassiopaean Experiment as the file www.cassiopaea.org/cass/sanity_1.PdF but without the fancy cover.

The Edvard Munch painting “The Scream” (or “The Cry”) was chosen to represent the screaming turbulence that a psychopath leaves in their wake in those around him. The title and sub-title were done using a wispy Brush Script MT to suggest the difficulty of understanding the inner hidden motivations of the psychopath. The blending of the text with the background reinforces the chameleon nature of the psychopath.

The author's name was done in a contrasting heavier block Capitals to give Cleckley’s name the strength that comes from his professional credentials.

The black text with white outline ties both the titles and the author's name together.
