Raven Pierce, 15, and her grandfather Steve Pierce discuss her social life. He tells her she is to stay in to focus on her schoolwork this weekend. Raven and her mother moved in with him after her father left them a couple of years ago. Steve has had multiple surgeries on his knee, neck and back from an accident that occurred at Meigs No. 1 Mine in Meigs County, Ohio, in 1979. The injuries have prevented him from ever working again and he spends most of his time on his lazy boy due to pain. His greatest responsibility is now raising a rebellious teenager.
