A New Discovery
During a photo outing at Brookside Gardens, large clusters of these fascinating little creatures were spotted on the trunks of several Crape Myrtle trees.
Later research revealed them to be Common Barklice.
This species is most likely Cerastipsocus venosus...the most common type of barklice here in the Eastern U.S.
Having the word "Common" as their first name seemed anti-climactic at first, but I still become genuinely giddy whenever I happen upon something new and exciting.
