Lime green and looking for love
Green figbirds are Australasian - this is sub-species Sphecotheres vieilloti vieilloti which can be seen in eastern Australia (east-central Queensland, down to here, in eastern New South Wales).
They are native to wooded habitats; this one perching briefly on a supply wire above dry, schlerophyll forest. Frugivorous in diet, but I've learned they will also take small insects, nectar and seeds.
This dynamic little character with his bright red eye mask and lime green coat is a male. Given that it was spring time, perhaps he was on the lookout for a female to impress.
Around 30 cm length.
