Scarlet and vermilion

It may be southern hemisphere Canberra, but temperatures are cold enough in autumn and winter to trigger the marvelous colours on certain northern hemisphere trees planted, such as these Pistacia chinensis, the Chinese pistache.

 

By chance we saw and spoke with a lady who lived on the street where these trees were located and were delighted to learn it was in fact her father who had planted these Pistacia chinensis trees over 50 years ago.

 

Within the same genus as the nut producing tree, but no nuts on this species.

 

Growing to 20 m.
