1890's Cross House Detail Emporia Kansas

Reminiscent of the fine stone carvings found on European castles and palaces, these versions were created from stamped tin metal panels and when finished and painted, they look like the originals. Additional repair and restoration work remain but an idea of how this will look like upon completion can be visualized. The sloped porch roof channels rain water towards the end with the drainpipe. This side faces the street on the cornered lot so the ornamental details are just as profuse here as on the front of the house. Architect Charles W. Squires was fond of arches, circles, and rounded forms and employed quite a few on the Cross House.
