1870's Italianate Console- Nostalgia?
This oversized console which appears to date between 1865 and 1880, makes little architectural sense on this decidedly Colonial Revival mansion from c. 1900 with otherwise Classical and Colonial revival details. A theory I have is that this artifact might be from an earlier home the original family once lived in-maybe it was on the same site. (as there are several nearby homes that appear to date from the 1870's and 1880's. Alternately, it might just be a salvage piece put up by more recent owners. While this fancy piece of gingerbread is not likely part of the original architect's design I hope it remains with the house for as long as it stands
