Steamscape: Fraser Loop
After turning on the balloon loop at Fraser, BC (MP 27.5) a White Pass & Yukon Fraser Meadows excursion heads back south toward White Pass, and eventually, Skagway. The turning loop at Fraser is located approximately 1/4 mile south of the railroad's station complex.
The power depicted here is the line's last steam locomotive, the Baldwin Mikado #73. The Baldwin Company built four, 70-Class Mikados for the WP&YR, numbered 70-73. The first two, the 70 and 71 came in 1938 and 1939 respectively. The final two, the 72 and 73 were delivered after the war, in 1947 and were the last narrow gauge locomotives built by Baldwin for US railroads.
This image was captured during a September 2025 photo shoot on the White Pass & Yukon Route, which was organized by Lerro Photography.
