Passing Pennington

The White Pass & Yukon's Mikado #73 works north on the eastern shore of Bennett Lake, passing the old section house at Pennington (MP 51.6). Once the location of a busy railroad waystation, including a section crew and water tank, the place is now a ghost town, with just a few empty buildings and a 24-car siding. The building is fragile and not currently important to the railroad, so its future is in question.

This image was captured during a September 2025 photo shoot on Alaska's White Pass & Yukon Route, which featured the line's only remaining steam locomotive, that being the 1947 Baldwin #73, seen here.
