Showing his muscle

Barking like a big dog, the Strasburg Rail Road's Thomas the Tank Engine hauls an 8-coach "Day out with Thomas" excursion up the hill toward the crossing at Esbenshade Road, showing off the nearly 26,000 lbs of tractive effort that this former Brooklyn Eastern District Terminal docksider is capable of. At least in the 2000s, Hit Entertainment, which owned the rights to the Thomas Trademark, was dictating the length of the rides at "Day out with Thomas" events. At Strasburg, the standard length ride basically equated to backing down to Groundhog Cut, then running forward back to the East Strasburg Station. That meant starting a heavy train of 8 loaded coaches on the grade at the cut. Thomas never failed to put on a show doing this, and the stack-talk could literally be heard for miles around. Under the baby-blue paint beats the heart of a bull.
