Protecting the gate

A volunteer from the Colorado Railroad Museum protects the unguarded crossing at the museum entrance, as the museum's excursion train rolls past, with Denver & Rio Grande Western K-37 Locomotive #491 providing the power. When the 491 was restored to operational condition at the CRRM in 2014, it was the first of the surviving K-37s to operate in about 2 decades and one of only 3 that have run since the D&RGW shut down their narrow gauge system. This image was captured in 2016. Since that time, the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad has restored another K-37, the #493 to service, and the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad has announced plans to eventually restore the #492, which is on their property.
