Eagle owl

... is the largest European owl species. It prefers to live and breed in rocky regions of mountains and forests. The larger females can reach a length of up to 70 cm and a wingspan of up to 1.70 metres.

The species is currently not considered endangered. The designation of differently structured landscape areas as nature reserves helps to preserve the birds' breeding opportunities.

The preferred prey of these nocturnal hunters are small to medium-sized mammals and birds such as rabbits, hares, pigeons, ducks...

This eagle owl chick is about 5-6 weeks old and not yet able to fly. 8 weeks after hatching, it begins its first flight exercises and after a further 2 weeks can hardly be distinguished from the adult birds.
