Metastatic melanoma, 2008
I learned the importance of human connection and how to receive it. Rather than keeping my illness quiet, I reached out to everyone in the community, hoping they could give me hope and strength. It worked. I tell people now that if they know someone sick, reach out. When in doubt, make the call and just say, “I’m thinking of you.” It doesn’t matter what you say, just make the call. It was phone calls and emails that got me through the day.
