Wisps

On New Years Day, it was sunny and there were a few clouds in the sky, so I thought there might be a chance that I could finally photograph the sun setting. I grabbed my camera and tripod and drove up Cypress Mountain, and could see the sun was quickly going down. When I got to the lookout, the parking lot was full and there was a line up down the side of the road. Everyone had the same idea! I waited awhile and finally made it almost to the exit of the lot, thinking I would have to turn around and go back home, when a car left, right in the prime spot, and I edged in. Once I got out of the car, I realized that the ground was a skating rink - I only had to go about five steps to the rock wall, so used my tripod as a walking pole, then leaned against the wall, put up my tripod and took a few shots. There were trees in the way, but I couldn't move the tripod or I would have slipped. People were falling like dominoes on the ice. I decided to leave to give someone else a chance to get the last of the colour, and found I couldn't take a step without sliding. Luckily, a young man took my hand and helped me off the ice. When I got home, I had to crop the image a lot to get rid of the trees in front. It's not one of the best sunset photos I've seen, but I do like the wispy line of clouds along the mountain range.
