Stonehenge in the Snow

I had some plans for photographing Stonehenge, but they kind of went out of the window.

In the end I just took a few photos.

I'd planned to use my tripod, but the weather was cold (as you see), and I didn't fancy standing around fiddling with the tripod and the camera. I could have gone back to get the tripod out of the car if I'd really wanted it though.

But most annoyingly, the walkway around Stonehenge had been blocked off by the staff because the paths had snow on them. That really annoyed me. I mean, I'd driven 50 or so miles on icy roads just to get there, so walking on a bit of snow was not going to bother me. They should really just put a note up saying 'at your own risk' or something. To photograph Stonehenge I wanted to walk all around it to find where the light and composition was working. Couldn't do that! Wasn't allowed to!

They don't let you walk amongst the stones either. They just let you walk on the path that circles the monument at a distance.

To cap off my annoyance, a group of Druids were let in amongst the stones to hold their Druid ceremony. And I was only allowed to walk a 50yds stretch of path. :-(

I'd normally be well disposed towards Druids, but the jealousy was getting to me. I'd normally think, 'oh, that's a nice cloak', but I was starting to think 'don't be so smug in your stupid hat, with your stupid senseless priviliges'. My uncle always used to say 'you're only three meals away from civil war'. I now know that I'm only a couple of steps away from scowling at a Druid or arguing with Stonehenge security staff.

We went for a walk around the surrounding landscape though, which was beautiful. We walked around the south side of Stonehenge. It was great to walk through the snow and to keep Stonehenge in view, peeping over the fields. Lovely walk!
