Giant House Spider (Eratigena atrica)

Big spider living in the gap under the laminate floor of my living room - in Saltaire, Yorkshire, UK.

I'm setting myself the project of finding out how many different kinds of spiders there are in my house. I photograph the spiders and then try to identify them.

Thanks to Cosper Wosper on the BBC Springwatch group for identifying this spider as a giant house spider, or Eratigena atrica.

Amongst others, I'd wondered if it was a Tegenaria domestica, but it looks as though the classifications have changed since my 1995 book of spiders was published.
