Spider in a Spider's Cocoon
The cellar spiders (Pholcus phalangioides) in my living room wrap their prey in web and then feed off the cocoon. This cocoon has been sitting around for a good few days now. I'm not sure what kind of spider is inside the cocoon. Poor thing! Crawling with mites now too! Eeeekkk!
I lit this cocoon by placing it directly in front of a remote flash with a diffuser. So, in official photographic terminology, the subject is backlit.
I felt itchy taking these photographs. Still feel itchy now actually!
These cocoons normally just look like small grey sacks. It's only the extreme backlighting here that makes them seem translucent.
Cannibalism!
