Abram Falls
A powerful cascade tucked deep within the Smokies, Abram Falls may be only 20 feet high, but the volume and force of the water make it one of the most impressive falls in the park. This shot was taken at the end of the 5-mile round-trip hike along the scenic Abrams Falls Trail, which winds through lush forest, rhododendron thickets, and quiet stream crossings. Despite its size, the falls thunder with energy, carving a deep pool below — a popular (but dangerous) spot in summer. Shot just after a light rain, the mist rising from the base added a beautiful touch of drama. One of my favorite hikes in Cades Cove.
